Start with what was tested
TB-500 and thymosin beta-4 need separate proof
Will TB-500 help your injury heal? We don't have human tests proving that. Most encouraging repair results came from a different substance.

TB-500 contains only part of a larger protein
What are you hearing about when someone mentions TB-500? It's a substance made for research in a lab. The lab joins seven small protein parts, called amino acids. Their order matches part of thymosin beta-4.
The dried powder isn't an approved treatment for you.
For most repair tests, researchers chose the larger protein [5]. The weights help show how much the substances differ. A dalton measures the weight of something too small to see. Each thymosin beta-4 molecule, one whole unit of the protein, weighs about 4963 daltons. Each TB-500 molecule weighs about 889 daltons.
The smaller substance has fewer parts to do the work.
Researchers haven't shown those fewer parts give equal repair results [5]. You need proof about the substance you're actually considering. TB-500 can't borrow another substance's results.
Your body already makes thymosin beta-4 in most cells.
When you're injured, blood cells and immune cells release the protein [13]. Your immune system helps protect you against infection. The protein holds actin, used for movement inside cells. TB-500 has that actin-holding part for movement inside your cells.
But movement inside cells doesn't tell you an injury healed.
Scarring can be limited by another section of the larger protein. TB-500 lacks that part. So the smaller substance can't make the same scar-limiting chemical when broken down. Your knee needs evidence of repair, beyond shared cell movement.
A chemical change helps TB-500 resist breakdown
Labs make TB-500 rather than taking the substance from someone. They join the protein parts, then change one end. That change helps protect the chemical from breaking down.
Protecting the chemical doesn't mean protecting your health.
Freezing and thawing can still damage TB-500. Breakdown can also happen inside your body. A vial is the small bottle holding the research powder. The TB-500 powder in that bottle can change or break down.
A bottle label can't tell you the contents are safe.
TB-500 drew attention through use in horse racing. Scientists developed horse-blood tests that find the substance. Urine tests also found what remained after breakdown.
Finding a drug doesn't show your injury would heal.
Your tendon joins muscle to bone so you can move. Those horse tests didn't check whether injured tendons recovered. The tests answered a drug-testing question, rather than your healing question.
The bottle's contents matter for your safety too.
An unchecked supplier may send a wrong or impure substance. Research tests used material whose contents had been checked. Someone's account of relief may involve different material.
The human safety study gave thymosin beta-4, not TB-500
The best human safety test here didn't test TB-500. The volunteers received thymosin beta-4, the larger protein. The 43-amino-acid protein has small protein parts joined together. Repair reviews describe less scarring and inflammation, your body's reaction to injury or infection [5]. That response can cause swelling, heat, redness, and pain. New blood vessels grew too.
For problems like yours, researchers studied skin, eyes, brain, and heart repair.
For your safety, start with what happened to people. Phase 1 means researchers were making an early safety check. Researchers treated 40 healthy volunteers by injection into a vein. The study amounts were 42, 140, 420, or 1260 milligrams.
Volunteers got thymosin beta-4 or placebo, which had no active drug.
There were two parts to the study. The volunteers first got a single treatment. They later got daily treatment for 14 days. The comparison was between thymosin beta-4 and placebo.
No serious problems were reported with thymosin beta-4 [6].
Some problems were called mild or moderate. The available study details don't name those symptoms. You can't tell which specific symptoms those findings might mean for you. Higher amounts left more thymosin beta-4 in the blood.
That finding doesn't tell you whether TB-500 is safe.
A healing claim needs the name of the tested substance. The cell-movement findings explain the shared part. The thymosin beta-4 comparison shows what the smaller substance lacks. Your injury needs direct TB-500 evidence before trusting a TB-500 claim.
People, animals, and cells give different kinds of answers
Which results come closest to your own question? The human safety check comes first. Researchers gave the larger protein in a Phase 1 study [6]. They weren't testing whether TB-500 repaired an injury.
A safety check doesn't tell you your injury will heal.
For repair, researchers mostly treated animals with the whole protein. They measured wounds, heart function, and recovery after stroke. Your body might respond differently from a rat's or mouse's.
You can't rely on animal recovery to predict your own.
Cell tests looked at how thymosin beta-4 holds actin [1]. Actin is a protein cells use for movement. The pairing was 1:1: one of each joined together. The cell research explains why that matters inside a cell.
A moving cell doesn't show your knee is repaired.
Hair tests gave thymosin beta-4 to mice and rats [7]. Hair-root cells became active, and the animals grew more hair. The TB-500 hair studies explain why your scalp still needs its own tests.
Your prescription raises a separate question about pharmacy permission.
The TB-500 drug rules explain that question. FDA is the U.S. agency that oversees drug safety. The same page explains sport's separate ban on the substance.
Permission doesn't prove a treatment can help you heal.
Researchers haven't shown that the shorter chemical treats human injuries [5]. The study amounts mostly concern animals or thymosin beta-4. You can't turn those findings into your own treatment plan.
New blood vessels might support tumors as well as repair.
Read the TB-500 safety answers for that possible concern. You can also check each numbered paper in the reference list.
Relief after personal use still needs checking
People using TB-500 for research describe changes in their bodies. Their accounts of relief and problems aren't findings checked in trials. Most repair tests gave thymosin beta-4.
You don't know whether the substance caused their relief.
TB-500 is a lab substance made from protein parts
Seven small protein parts, called amino acids, make TB-500. Those parts match a section of thymosin beta-4. The whole 43-amino-acid protein contains more of those small parts.
The shorter substance is dried into research powder.
The research label doesn't make the powder an approved treatment for you.
TB-500's name doesn't describe a treatment amount
The letters come from the thymosin beta-4 name. The number 500 is part of the research name. That number doesn't state the weight or an amount for treatment.
You can't read a healing promise into a name.
